If you are looking for delicious Italian food that feels like home, make sure you try La Stalla. Not only is it close to home in Chandler but the food is ah.ma.zing. Compound that with a waitress who exudes a love of food like no other. Don’t believe me? Just ask her to describe the Bocconcini al Prosciutto, which is fresh mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto topped with mushrooms and baked in the oven. But the way that she describes it, sounds more like soft scoop-able cheese that you imagine drizzling down your face and shovel it into your mouth because you cannot wait another second to devour it.
Many of us enjoyed the special of the day which was fresh homemade gnocchi with a lamb ragu. As someone who does not always enjoy lamb, I could not get enough of this magical dish. That was not the only amazing dish that night. We also enjoyed the enormous “size of a small baby” Calzone, Pasta e Fagioli soup, Salmone alla Griglia, and Saltinbocca alla Romana (veal medallions with mozzarella and prosciutto) to name a few.
It was hard to top the entrees but we made a noble attempt with delicious desserts. There was a Chocolate Souffle that oozed fudgey goodness, a Limoncello Flute served in a champagne glass, and creamy heavenly Creme Brulee.
Some of us old people (raises hand) headed home afterwards while the young whipper-snappers kept the party going at a wine bar on the next block.
This was another great pick by Karna and Fred and a successful evening since we also planned another episode of Double Ds Wine Pairing to be held in June. It had been 2 years since we brought the meal in instead of going out and we were all itching to do it again. Well all but one but she wasn’t there to drown out the votes… 🙂
So now we get the creative recipe gears going and start planning for June’s special shin-dig. Prost!
