It is very refreshing to see so many great new restaurants coming to the Chandler and Gilbert areas! No longer do we have to trek up to Scottsdale to find new places with chefs that play with flavors like a kid with a chemistry set.
Barrelhouse offers some great choices such as Green Chili White Bean Hummus, Maple Smoked Pork Belly, Sonoran Chorizo Sliders, or Southern Fried Artichoke Bruschetta. And that is just for the starters!
On the dinner menu the Tavern Steak and Fries was way too fatty and greasy but the Hard Cider Pot Roast was a hit. The Goat Cheese Crepes with spinach and grilled mushrooms are the stuff of dreams and the White Truffle Mac and Cheese with brussel sprouts, bacon, and tomatoes earned moans of taste-bud approval. The Hunter’s Burger was okay but really could have used some kind of spice to kick-it up a notch, but the Lobster Baked Chili Rellenos and the Caribbean Jerk Sea Bass did not let us down.
The cocktails were quite a trip into unknown territory with concoctions made from ingredients like apricot liqueur, cucumber vodka, celery bitters, pickle brine and more.
Another great DD tasting adventure completed. Happy April!
