This month the Double Ds missed seeing Tony and Fred S. but got the special treat of being joined by Amanda for our visit to a casual South East Valley restaurant called BLD Chandler. Short for “Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner”, BLD is a relaxed place that has ” ’round the clock possibilities”. Our group sat at the large community table, which in some cases can make visiting difficult for the whole group, but we managed it for the most part. The service was good, but the restaurant was not at full capacity so we pretty much had the full attention of our waiter.
We enjoyed a few bottles of a yummy wine that I can’t remember now (but maybe my fellow diners can help me recall) and enjoyed some tasty dishes that were a spin on traditional meals that I like to call “adverturesome comfort food”. Examples of this would be the Braised Beef Short Rib with Cheddar Polenta, Roasted Asparagus, and Mushroom Au Jus, BLD Meatloaf that tasted like the traditional dish got an education, or Herb Chicken Breast with your choice of Parmesan Risotto or Garlic and Cheddar Mashed Potatoes that melted in your mouth with deliciousness. Just to name a few.
Not in the mood for a full dinner? They have a great happy hour that lasts 3-7pm every day. Great pricing on draft beers, well drinks, or house wines plus a menu witha a few more tasty treats. Sadly it appears that the Green Chile Pork con Queso is not on the menu now but I can only hope that it will return again soon! Even with it gone, there are still some good eats such as Chorizo Chili Cheese Fries that are good and a Meatball Mac n’ Cheese that is an adventure I would be willing to join.
As if our dinner thus far had not been filled with enough interesting flavors, we tried a desert, that I can’t find on the menu, that was like a sundae but with a little surprise of corn nuts. Interesting but not bad.
While some truly enjoyed the food and atmosphere enough to return again, there were some in the group that were not as filled with rapture. Even so, the point of the Double Ds is to get together with friends and make memories and we all enjoyed the company and that is what really matters!
Next month we visit the Moore home for their holiday wine party. Let’s hope they keep the karaoke safely locked away!
